YPF finds more shale reserves, describes strategy
Aug, 30, 2012 02:54 PM - Associated Press
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina's state-controlled YPF energy company has discovered a new reserve of shale gas and oil that could make the South American country an even bigger energy provider in the years ahead.
YPF CEO Miguel Galuccio announced the discovery while describing his five-year plan Thursday. He called it another "mother rock" that is entirely separate from the Vaca Muerta reserve that gives Argentina the world's third-largest shale potential behind the U.S. and China.
Galuccio said five wells have tapped into the Golfo San Jorge reserve, and that Exxon Mobil is partnering with YPF in the effort. He said that shows YPF is a good bet for foreign investors.
He denied that YPF faces a cash crunch, saying nearly all its debt payments have been delayed to enable the company's growth.
